Lakeysha is as an author, speaker, health advocate, and Navy veteran. She has spent the last 15 years providing nutrition education to families and promoting physical activity in many communities. She has received many awards and honors, including being named the California “Champion Mom” for initiating changes in schools that reduced consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages. Along with being featured in the Legacy of Health statewide media campaign, she has been a speaker at the Clinton Foundation’s Health Matters conference and a keynote speaker at the California Department of Public Health Summit. In her free time, Lakeysha enjoys running, skating and writing.
I’ve been active and involved in sports most of my life. I remember when my mom would take me to cross country meets, basketball games and more. Little did I know, every practice, every game was only preparing me for a life- long love for fitness. I’m a bonafide gym rat and find pleasure in running half marathons and roller skating. As I get older I continue to push my body to different levels of strength and endurance to build on my foundation of wellness. Even with a strong foundation, I discovered my defining moment. I thought I knew my body but it turns out that I had no clue. While I was a gym rat, I also did too much cardio for my body type. Once I learned what worked for me, my workouts became revolutionary! My goal is to also help others develop a plan that specifically suits their body type.
As a wife and mother, life can get pretty demanding and responsibilities increase pretty quickly at work and home. Even with my busy schedule, I’ve found that when I’m physically active I’m more productive, in a better mood and I’m able to pour from a full cup. I not only need physical activity, but I enjoy it and live it almost every day. I am currently a Certified Personal Trainer & a Certified Nutrition Coach.
